Reception for Lene Balleby

30 January 2025

Lene Balleby has worked as the royal family's communications director for 17 years. An era is about to end. On February 1st the royal court has a new communications director - former editor and tv hostess Nina Z. Munch-Perrin.

On January 30th people gathered at a farewell reception for Lene Balleby. The reception took place at Christian VIII's Palace at Amalienborg. Lene Balleby was honored with a new title as chambermaid.

The King and Queen attended the reception and they were in a splendid mood. Princess Benedikte were also present at the reception.

Honestly I have never really been a big fan of that The Fold London blouse. Mainly the color was nagging me. It is so pale and boring but today I changed my mind. I absolutely love the combination with the grey structured Celine trousers. The two colors are brilliant in pair! It took way too long for those two to find each other. The fine grey patent leather belt is a great detail.

I also really like how she accessorized the outfit with a reused diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co and shiny diamond rings. Makes the look a bit more glamorous. Think I spotted a pair of grey suede ankle boots. Quite sure she has worn them before but I have no ID.

Visiting Lerbjerg Forest

30 January 2025

Queen Mary is new patron of the Danish Nature Fond. She "inaugurated" the new title with a visit at Lerbjerg Forest in Lejre.

The Danish Nature Fond was founded back in 2015. The foundation aim to promote the protection of nature and water environment in Denmark.

Along with with Chairman of the Danish Nature Fond Bengt Holst, the Queen went for a walk-and-talk. They were accompanied by representatives of the Danish Nature Fond (among others biologist Frederik Møller) and Lejre Municipality. During the walk she also helped inaugurate a new handicap accessible boardwalk.

A walk in the forest this time a year in Denmark takes a good and warm outfit. Mary knew that when she was visiting Lerbjerg Forest in Lejre. She had chosen a practical olive green Laksen jacket and matching trousers. Mary first wore this set when visiting Greenland July 2024. The warm gloves are also from Laksen.

Mary was also wearing wonderful boots from Penelope Chilvers and a cozy plum knitted beanie. Pretty sure the beanie is new.

Love the fact that we have a Queen comfortable wearing both elegant gala gowns and a down-on-earth outdoor outfit.

Anniversary of the establishment of Holmen's Medal of Honor

29 January 2025

King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted a banquet at Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg on occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of Holmen's Medal of Honor.

Holmen's Medal of Honor was founded by King Christian VII on January 29th 1801 (his birthday). It is the Navy Service Medal. Holmen's Medal of Honor is the oldest military honorary order.

The King and Queen had invited officers of admiral and commander rank from the Navy. Queen Margrethe was also present at the banquet.

Back in 2019 women of the armed forces had created a new gala uniform. Mary received her very own gala uniform which she has worn very year since on occasion of the Medal of Honor banquet. The uniform comes with a black floor-length dress and a matching tailored blazer.

Mary had chosen to embraced the gala uniform with sparkly Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen earrings and what looks like a massive golden ring. I guess she could be wearing black pumps to match the rest of her outfit. I love the soft curly half-hairdo.

Premiere of "Jeppe på Bjerget"

23 January 2025

On Thursday King Frederik and Queen Mary attended the grand premiere of the play "Jeppe på Bjerget" - a comedy by famous Danish writer Ludvig Holdberg. They watched the play from the royal balcony at The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.

"Jeppe på Bjerget" was written in 1722. It portraits the story of a farmer (Jeppe) struggling in life after years on the battlefield. He cope with the aftermath by drinking. On day the Baron and his people find Jeppe in a pit. They are mocking him and yet they play a prank on him. They make him believe that he is the Baron. Powers takes over and he end up treating others like he was treated. Once again he is found in the pit and is then sentenced to death as another and final practical joke. One last humiliation.

Mary's velvet suit reminded me of her sister-in-laws outfit when attending a return event in December last year. Princess Marie, Mary and even Princess Benedikte have loved wearing velvet lately. I am pretty sure Mary wore a brand new black velvet suit. I have not been able to identify it yet. Any ideas? Photos makes it hard to look for specific details. She beautifully matched the suit with a reused white Jesper Høvring blouse.

Love that she accessorized the outfit with golden jewellery. She first wore the stunning diamond earrings from Rosing at the gala premiere at "Ehrengard" in September 2023. Really like the design: cool and edgy yet elegant and soft. Seems like everybody have completely forgotten about the necklace. In fact Mary has worn it before at the opening of the "Global Fashion Summit" on May 2024. It was identify as a vintage Dior necklace.

Did you know that Mary first wore the chic Louis Vuitton clutch in 2009? Back then she matched her new clutch with a Temperly London dress at the "Sports Gala" in Herning. A great match with the suede studded Gianvito Rossi pumps!

New Year's reception at Christiansborg

07 January 2025

King Frederik and Queen Mary were driven from Amalienborg to Christiansborg in the historical Gold Coach escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Mounted Squadron.

They were about to host the very last New Year's reception for Officers from the Defence and the Danish Emergency Management Agency, national organisations and royal patronages.

Love that Mary is rewearing her old Jule Fagerholt creation. She first wore it in 2008 at another New Year's reception at Amalienborg. Back then it came with a different top and a jacket. Even thought it looks beautiful today I still misses the matching top and jacket.

The fine diamond brooch dates back to around 1840 - possibly made for Queen Josefina of Sweden. Her grand daughter Crown Princess Lovisa of Denmark inherited them. They are now part of the Danish Royal Property Trust stored at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen.

The earrings comes with a history too. Read more about the earrings here. Apparently Mary chose to mix and match parts of two different earrings from the same parure.

She also styled her outfit with a beloved grey suede BOSS clutch and magnificent Gianvito Rossi pumps.

New Year's reception at Amalienborg & Christiansborg

06 January 2025

On Thursday King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted their very first New Year's Even Banquet at Amalienborg.

January 6th the couple then hosted their first New Year's reception for the Justice of the Surpreme Court and Officer Corps of the Royal Life Guard. The Guard of Hussar Regiment were also invited to the reception at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg.

Around the couple hosted yet another reception for the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg.

Mary looked beautiful in her reused Teri Jon by Rickie Freeman dress! Perfect for the occasion and its wintery vibe is just great. She first wore the dress at an official dinner in Katuaq July 2024. The the New Year's reception Mary added a white turtleneck and long white gloves. I kinda like that. What about you? Think it made the dress even more glamourous.

Mary embraced the style with a stunning hairdo! Such an elegant choice. Made the incredible diamond earrings stand out. The once belonged to Anne of Orange. Another piece of history is the golden diamond bracelet. It is Queen Louise's engagement bracelet. LOVE that she is wearing all these historical pieces of jewellery. Jewellery we haven't seen for years.

The bracelet can also be worn as a brooch and the earrings can go as pendants on a necklace. She also wore a fine clutch and matching suede Gianvito Rossi pumps.

New royal coat of arms and royal flags

The royal coat of arms

On January 1st the court revealed the King's new royal coat of arms. A royal coat of arms is the King's personal symbol and a state symbol. They are known in Danish history around the time of 1194.

King Frederik wished to create a contemporary royal coat of arms that both reflects the Commonwealth and takes into account history and heraldic tradition. He hereby changed the former coat of arms which was stated in 1972.

The royal flags

Changing the royal coat of arms comes with an update of the royal flags. The King's red and white flag is now decorated with the new coat of arms.

Queen Mary also has her own royal flag now. Hers are decorated with her husband's coat of arms next to her own. Mary's coat of arms consists of symbols referring both to her Scottish and Australian heritage along with a golden star symbolising femininity and beauty.

With his new title Crown Prince Christians has also got his own royal flag. It is decorated with his father's coat of arms and a unique crown symbolising the title as Crown Prince.

See all the royal flags here.

New Year's Eve Banquet 2025

01 January 2025

It was a magical evening when King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted their very first New Year's Eve banquet at Amalienborg! The banquet is the most prestiges dinner of them all. Guests from the court, government and the official Denmark were invited to take part in the banquet.

Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte attended from the royal family as well as Queen Margrethe. It was Crown Prince Christian's debut attending the banquet. It was wonderful to see of them.

Queen Mary has helped select the flower decorations at Christians VII's Palace. The flowers are arranged like large clouds of white, small-flowered gypsophila, white orchids, large-leaved eucalyptus and jasmine from Fredensborg Castle.

Some of you might have guessed in advance that Mary would wear her beautiful green silk velvet gown made by Birgit Hallstein. Actually the couple wore the exact same outfits as the gall portraits released in April of last year taken by photographer Steen Evald. Apparently the green lace on Mary's gown are a reuse from another dress but I haven't figured out yet which one.

Mary styled the beautiful outfit with the tiara and earring's from the emerald set of the Crown Jewels. Queen Margrethe has worn the set many times before on the occasion of the banquet. She embraced the set with a green emerald ring from Annikat and a diamond ring from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. I am very interested in her other diamond rings but I need a close-up to tell more.

I am also captured by the small piece of jewellery worn in her hair. Do we know this piece? The stunning silver embellished clutch is a reuse. The sky-high heels are black satin pumps from Gianvito Rossi.

The King's spoke to the Danish people from the ease of reception at Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg. The room is beautifully decorated with a huge painting by artist Jesper Christiansen.
