Flag Day 2019

05 September

September 5th is a very special day for a lot of people. It is the official Flag Day for Danish soldiers abroad fighting for a better world. Both people that are in war areas and those who have been on a mission, are honor by this annual event. Since 2009 the event has taken place with a wreath laying at Kastellet, a church service in Holmens Church and with a ceremonial parade at the castle square at Christiansborg.

Both Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended all three ceremonial honors of the Danish soldiers. Each year is emotional. So was this year. Especially Crown Princess Mary showed a few tears of compassion. I imagine the atmosphere is not really to describable. I have never experienced it myself, but I am sure it is a something you have to experience to tell.

Personally I am impressed and honor that a rather small country as Denmark is able to make an annual event like this. It is with great pride I represent Denmark as Dane. Thanks to those who arranged Flag Day - it makes all of us proud. That is also why I think the Crown Prince Couple gladly attend every year.

Attending the event in Copenhagen, Crown Prince Frederik was dressed in his black uniform with matching gloves, orderer, a hat and polished shoes. Next to him, he had his lovely wife. She was looking gorgeous in a brand new dusty white double-breasted jacket. Several designers crossed my ming, but Heaven managed to find her new jacket at non the less than Alexander McQueen. I absolutely love everything about this new piece. The buttons, sleeves, peplum illusion, collar, etc. She matched it with a reused floral printed midi skirt from Andiata. A wonderful piece to show that summer is not over yet.

As accessories, Mary had chosen a wide-brimmed hat from milliner Susanne Juul. Actually she had the same model in both purple and beige as well. This black one is perfect for the occasion. She embraced the style by also wearing nude leather gloves, a Naledi Copenhagen clutch in the same color and power pink pointed pumps from Gianvito Rossi. All reused pieces worn on numerous occasions.

I spotted both a diamond ring from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen and old diamond earrings, which I strongly believe is from Hartmann's. It is their style but nothing is proven yet. We also get a glimpse of a golden bracelet first worn recently. Duong Fine Jewelry is the creator.

  1. A moving ceremony that they honored together. The Crown Princess looks perfectly attired for the occasion. The tailoring of the Alexander McQueen jacket is impeccable, the waist seam line helps taper the silhouette further before gradually flaring into the peplum which is balanced well against the strong shoulder line. The soft blush colour brings out the delicate print of the skirt which is an elegant length - I like what you said that the skirt reminds us 'that summer is not over yet' despite the rainy weather. The Susanne Juul hat is glorious, the style is so flattering on her, I can see why she bought it in several colours. The fluted light design adds to the summery feel of the look while adding a touch of romance to the ensemble. These patent pumps are a favorite of mine, they are a particularly classy nude tone and the patent leather adds further polish. This is a fine example of how one new piece and can refresh a collection of well chosen items that have been worn multiple times. We will no doubt see the blazer successfully re-styled at some point. Mary has some light coloured trouser suits, the Andiata 'rose cloud suit' worn in Finland springs to mind, that ensemble was gorgeous. I wonder if there are matching straight leg trousers to the McQueen jacket, it could be quite a striking look.

    1. You're right - matching trousers would make a striking look. I am a personal fan of pants suits, but she rarely wear such matching suits. I imagine her new McQueen jacket worn with black wide-leg trousers. That would be a classic outfit for her to wear during fall and winter. Let's see what happens; the Crown Princess keeps on surprising us with everything she wears.

    2. I can absolutely see this jacket worn with black trousers in the colder months. I'm a big fan of trouser suits too, they are so modern! I really liked the Emporio Armani suit worn in Rome, the drape of the fabric was so elegant and it was beautifully paired with a soft pink blouse.
