The Carlsberg Foundations Research Awards 2019

01 September

As guest of honor, Crown Princess Mary attended the Carlsberg Foundations Research Awards 2019 and following dinner. The honoring took place at the legendary Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - an art  museum build by Carlsbergs founder, Carl Jacobsen. He was a passioned collector of both antique and modern art. A magnificent place, here.

The Crown Princess was welcomed welcomed by, among others, Ane Halboe-Jørgensen. She is the new Minister of Education and Science. Later in the evening both women entered the stage and presented the two Carlsberg awards.

For quite a few year the Crown Princess has been a regular person on the guest list. I believe she first attended the event in 2013, here. Since then she has been invited to hand over two research awards to scientists who have contributed with decisively scientific research results. According to the Royal House the awards are given to both natural sciences- and a humanist/social science researcher. This year Crown Princess Mary handed over the awards to Thomas Kiørboe, Professor ogf Microscipic Life at Sea and Mikael Rask Madsen, Professor of European Law and integration. Congratulations to both of them!

Along with the honor both winners are given 250,000 Danish kroner as a personal rewards and furthermore 750,000 Danish kroner to their research.

What a night it was, when Mary attended the presentation of the Carlsberg Foundations Research Awards at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. The scene was set when she arrived in the most gorgeous outfit. We have seen this outfit before, but not at an official event. In July of 2018 the royal couple attended a friends wedding and here Mary showed up wearing almost exactly the same outfit at on Sunday September 1st. She matched a blouse and a maxi skirt to make it look like a dress. The two-piece are from Diane von Furstenberg. Think it is clever of her to wear it as a dress. Looks just lovely. What do you think of her "dress"?

She embraced the evening look with a Dolce & Gabanna belt featuring large red rhinestones. Somehow this combo works perfectly. If you think about it the colors are quite odd, but Mary rocked that combination of rusty orange and shiny red.

I am sure you noticed her huge and eye-catching earrings. So did I. She first wore them when visiting the European Council in Strasbourg in 2017, here. Later again at the friends wedding. They are a unique pair of Kharisma earrings made by Dulong Fine Jewelry. Can't imagine who expensive they are with all the gold, diamonds and precious stones. Incredible design. One of her bracelets is also from that jewellery designer. The other golden bangle is from Cartier.

Another golden accessory is her heeled sandals. Did you see them? Gosh they are stunning. These were also worn at the friends wedding last year. Now Elena managed to identify the sandals as Aquazzura, here. Note that the model is name Josephine as her youngest daughter. Coincidence? But and amazing finding. Suddenly I wish I had a pair of golden sandals in my wardrobe. To top off her look Mary wore a reused (yellow) clutch from Yves Saint Laurent. To me Mary looked like a true goddess - with hair and makeup and all. Outstanding.

  1. What a stunning ensemble, the Crown Princess looks sensational! I look forward to this event every year. The caramel, gold and burnt orange tones are so flattering against her dark hair. I love everything, from the pendants on the earrings to the jewelled belt. This outfit is beautifully put together, the top and skirt are relatively simple but the accessories and elegant hairstyle elevate this look. The updo feels modern and showcases the soft halter style top with it's silky pleats and ties that cascade down the back of the blouse. The polka dots are dainty, the skirt length is graceful and allows us a glimpse of the glamours Aquazzura T-bar sandals - Mary has quite the shoe collection. The mustard yellow clutch provides an unexpected but welcome burst of colour against the velvety tones.

    1. The Crown Princess does have a big shoe collection. I rarely think about it because really - one more or less. But looking at the big picture she has more than we are able to count even if we tried. That goes with most of her wardrobe. Luckily, she is also good a reusing both her clothes, shoes and other accessories. As with the shoes worn at the presentation of the Carlsberg Foundations Research Awards.

  2. Thanks for responding, I agree! I find the Crown Princess's style inspiring, where she often repeats items in a new and exciting way. Pieces are often brought out that she has had in her closet for years, I love that she has accumulated a selection of timeless accessories that can be mixed and matched across her wardrobe. Statement purchases are clever too, they seem thought through and mostly bought in tones that can easily be re-styled. Mary's choices feel relatable where they are classic staples that can be worn elegantly over and over again (like cropped trousers, suede pumps etc - some women share similar versions in their own wardrobes).
