Part 2: Princess Isabella's 18th birthday

15 April 2025

Within a few days Princess Isabella will celebrate her 18th birthday! She has already been honored in Aarhus a couple of days ago.

Tonight more than 1,000 young people from the age of 17 to 24 were invited to Copenhagen to take part in the celebration. They were invited as guests of honor to attend a gala performance at the Royal Theatre.

From her family attended: King Frederik, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine, Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie. Count Nikolai and Count Felix were also invited to the performance such as her two aunts, Jane and Patricia.

I am not quite sure what I expected of Mary for this event. Something spectacular but not to rise above her daughter. I might have hoped for something a little more glamorous but Mary did look amazing in her reused By Malene Birger skirt and fine black satin blouse. Mary first wore the set in 2007 when visiting New York.

She embraced the style with Queen Ingrid's impressive red ruby parure. At the gala she wore the simple version of both earrings and necklace. The embellished black belt and matching Sergio Rossi clutch have booth been worn before just like the pointed satin pumps from Gianvito Rossi.

Star of the show: Princess Isabella wore a smashing new tulle gown created by Jesper Høvring. The shiny diamond earrings are from a Bruun Rasmussen auction. Both earrings, silver bracelet and clutch have been seen worn by Mary. Isabella also flashed a golden Cartier bangle.

Elegant Princess Josephine re-wore wonderful blue Jesper Høvring jumpsuit. She styled it with Blue Topaz earrings from Georg Jensen and a golden ring from Dulong Fine Jewelry. Both from her mother's wardrobe. The fine hair comb is by Ellen Hunter.

Christmas greeting from Queen Mary and the Mary Foundation

20 December 2024

The Queen looks back on the year that has passed at the Mary Foundation. What the foundation has achieved in the past year and what work lies ahead. Read the full speech here.

"All years are special. They contain their own impacts, events and memories. But 2024 in particular will leave a clear mark on my memory.

This year, the Mary Foundation changed its name from the Mary Foundation to the Mary Foundation -H.M. Queen Mary's Foundation. But our work continued unchanged, and we are still fighting for the same purpose through our three areas of focus: bullying & well-being, loneliness and violence in the family.

At the Mary Foundation, we always strive for more knowledge, effective efforts and new ways to make a difference for those who are outside the community.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who works with us to ensure that more people have a place in the community and experience belonging. It is precisely in partnerships and collaboration that we use each other best and can make the biggest difference for all those who deserve it.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a hopeful New Year!"

- Queen Mary

Remember to follow my royal Christmas calendar and the royals own Advent calendar.

I guess photographer Emil Bagger captured this years photo of Mary when she hosted a Christmas reception for the Mary Foundation's partner on December 5th. The beautiful custom-made Birgit Hallstein dress was a perfect choice. Stylish, elegant and Christmas red.

Love that she accessorized the dress with ruby red earrings from Queen Ingrid's Ruby Parure and the ring custom-made by Dulong Fine Jewelry's talented craftsmen to match the parure. And of course the fine diamond-studded butterfly brooch. The Mary Foundation's logo.

Christmas reception with the Mary Foundation

05 December 2024

Every year, Queen Mary host a Christmas reception for the Mary Foundation and their partners. Her way of saying "Thank you for a succesful year. We look forward to another year of collaboration with you".

The reception took place at Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg.

I rarely comment on photos but this time I have to. Emil Bagger captured the most incredible photos at the Christmas reception. I feel the atmosphere. I like was there.

I always look forward to see what Mary is wearing at the annual Christmas reception for the Mary Foundation's partners. This year, she had chosen her stunning bright tailored Birgit Hallstein dress. A very simple dress with many incredible details. The elegant neckline, balloon sleeves and high slit.

At the Christmas reception, Mary accessorized the look with ruby earrings from Queen Ingrid's Ruby Parure and a diamond studded butterfly brooch - the Mary Foundation's logo. Love that she chose soft curls for the event.

Remember to follow my royal Christmas calendar.

Day 2. Official state visit from Iceland

09 October 2024

Yesterday, the Icelandic President and her husband arrived in Copenhagen for a two-days official state visit. The King and Queen warmly welcomed the couple at Nordre Toldbod.

Today, the royal couple accompanied President Halla Tómasdóttir and husband Björn Skúlason for a visit at "State of Green" which is a private-public partnership between the Danish government, companies and actors within the energy sector. Among others, the Presidential couple also paid a visit at Copenhagen Business School and attended the conference "Iceland and Denmark's Path to Shared Success".

Laster on, the King and Queen attended a business conference at Danish Industry along with the Presidential couple.

I really hoped for something else but you never fail with a good old suit from Scanlan & Theodore and a plain white Hugo Boss blouse. Right? Mary wore the same combo when celebrating Queen Margrethe's 83rd birthday in April 2023 and at a state visit in Spain in 2023.

This time, Mary accessorized the dusty green suit with brand new white pearl earrings from Dulong Fine Jewelry and a beautiful beaded brooch. I have never been able to identify the brooch. Maybe I will one day. Could it be a one-of-a-kind? It is a reuse such as the elegant diamond ring from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen.

The chic snake pumps are old ones from Gianvito Rossi. She wore the exact same pumps at the state visit in Spain last year. I never really understood the thing about snakeskin/python pumps, but Mary changed my mind.

Return event at the Northatlantic Brygge

Island's President Halla Tómasdóttir hosted a return event at the Northatlantic Brygge in Copenhagen. Usually, the royal couple host a dinner or banquet in honor of the visiting couple and they host a return event as a "thank you for your hospitality during our visit".

Princess Benedikte was also present at the event such as the Icelandic ambassador in Denmark Péter Ásgeirsson.

Mary wore this suit back in 2015 when attending "World Cancer Day". I have thought about it for years, when she would wear it again. Today it happened! Back then I was not sure about it being a two-piece or a jumpsuit. I go with a jumpsuit. Seems most likely. The black belt is a reuse from Celine. At the arrival, Mary was wearing an old black Prada coat.

She embraced the style with ruby earrings and bracelet inherited from Queen Ingrid. Both are part of the Queen's ruby parure. I am sure you noticed her exclusive ruby ring. It belonged to Queen Alexandrine. She wore it as a brooch. Queen Alexandrine even wore it on her engagement photos (link below). Mary paired it with a diamond band from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen and a silver one from Dulong Fine Jewelry.

As with the jumpsuit, we haven't seen these black patent pumps from Gianvito Rossi for quite some years. Mary was very fund of these pumps years ago.

Summer tour with Dannebrog

Day 4. Vejle

22 August 2024

A day in Vejle

King Frederik and Queen Mary have arrived to Vejle. Dannebrog docked in Vejle harbour and the couple were warmly welcomed. The official welcoming took place at the city hall.

They paid a visit to Kong Gauers Gård which is both a daycare and nursing home. It was a wonderful to see how everybody lit up when they saw the King and Queen. Both young and old.

Lunch was enjoyed at Fjordenhus. After a great lunch, the couple visited Welcon. Welcon primarily work with constructions in steel for the international renewable energy sector based on wind turbines. In connection to that, they visited Vejle Climate park and The Flying kayak club.

Mary really looked beautiful when the couple visited Vejle! I love how she matched blue with blue - and a little dusty pink. Makes a stunning outfit. The elegant blouse is a reuse from Proenza Shoulder and the fine skirt is Baum und Pferdgarden. Also a reuse. Her short black coat is from Prada and the long beige trenchcoat is a new one from Harris Wharf London. She first wore it yesterday in Assens.

She styled the outfit with an amazing new wide-brimmed hat. Who feels the 60's vibe? She has a similar one from Susanne Juul which makes me think it cloud be her design as well.

Look closer and you will se quite a few pieces of jewellery. A golden bracelet from Dulong Fine Jewelry, a huge diamond ring and delicate diamond earrings.

I mentioned dusty pink accessories as well. Her magnificent Gianvito Rossi sling-backs and leather handbag from Max Mara made the look even more sparkeling. Later on, she changed to a pair of Prada ballet flats.

Reception on board Dannebrog

Last but not least, the royal couple hosted one last reception on board Dannebrog with specially invited guest from Vejle. A great way to end a wonderful summer tour!

Somehow, I am more impressed by her evening reception outfits and this one is outstanding! Mary was wearing a brand new Saloni dress. The details are exquisite. She wears it with such perfection. A simple white dress with lovely floral embroidery. What is not to like?

She matched the new dress with simplified earrings from the Queen Ingrid's ruby parure. We also get a glimpse of her Halberstadt and Dulong Fine Jewelry, such as a diamond ring from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen.

Proclamation of King Frederik X.

14 January 2024

When Queen Margrethe announced her abdication at her New Year's Eve speech on 31st December 2023, the world gasped. No one had ever thought this would happened. The Queen always stated that she would stay on the throne till the day she died. In her speech, she argued that a previous operation made her think. Think about the future. That was when she decided to hand over the throne to her oldest son Crown Prince Frederik.

The proclamation would take place on January 14th 2024. That is today! Never had I thought in a million years, I would live to see the Crown Prince Couple become King and Queen. But I did.

In my previous entry, I posted about today's program (here). From the carriage ride to the change of royal flags to the private and the official proclamation.

It was a magical moment, when Frederik stepped out on the balcony at Christiansborg. Now as King Frederik X. of Denmark. The Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced the proclamation (here).

The new King also gave a short speech (here). He honored his mother's work throughout 52 years as Queen and mother. Humble, he proclaimed his responsibility with respect, pride and joy.

It was a remarkable moment to watch the two of them on the balcony. The Queen was so proud of her husband and the King cried of the overwhelmingly amount of support he was given by the Danes.

"A big moment - seen from behind"

Seriously, what to expect for a day like this. What did you have in mind for her outfit? I was sure we would see her in a brand new dress, but somehow I thought she'd be wearing something blue or purple. But no. Our new Queen, wore a new white bespoke crepe-dress designed by Søren Le Schmidt and tailored by Birgit Hallstein - who also made her wedding gown in 2004. Two memorable white dresses.

Mary chose to wear parts of Queen Ingrid's Ruby Parure. A wonderful gesture both to Queen Ingrid but also her husband who had a very close relationship to his grandmother. She wore: the hairpins, earrings and the outstanding brooch. Such as the custom-made ruby ring by Dulong Fine Jewelry.

We also get a glimpse of her beloved necklaces from Halberstadt and Julie Sandlau.

Her elegant nude patent leather pumps are reused ones from Prada.

New Year's Eve reception

- at Amalienborg and Christiansborg

03 January 2024

It is also a tradition for the Queen to host three separately New Year's Eve receptions. The first two takes place on January 3rd. One for Supreme Court judges, the Royal Life Guards and the Officer Corps of the Guard Hussar Regiment at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg and the second one is for diplomatic corps at Christiansborg.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary participated both receptions.

Tomorrow, Queen Margrethe will host her very last New Year's Eve reception as ruling Queen of Denmark. Next year, King Frederik will host the reception along with his wife - Queen Mary.

Mary wore a beloved bespoke Henrik Hviid evening gown. She has been wearing this exact gown for quite a few years now for this special event. Maybe she embraced her mother-in-laws dress code - wear the same gown as last year. Queen Margrethe has often been seen wearing the same outfit year after year for these New Year's Eve receptions. It is a very simple dress, but the details are exquisite!

A closer look revealed that she has chosen diamond earrings purchased at a Bruun Rasmussen auction. Adore the flower-shape. So elegant and romantic. The ruby brooch is perfect with the navy blue gown and sam-color nail polish.

We also get a glimpse of her Halberstadt necklace and a golden bracelet. It could be Cartier. Her ring is also very exciting. She wore it first for some years ago, but I was never able to identify it or find out where it is from. It's still a mystery.

As other accessories, Mary wore her reused Quidam clutch and suede blue Pura Lopez pumps. Also take a look at those stunning hair combs. One of them has been identified as Ellen Hunter.

New Year's Eve Banquet 2024

01 January 2024

The New Year's Even Banquet is the most prestiges gala dinner taking place each year. This is when Queen Margrethe and the royal family welcome a new year with all it takes. Gowns, their finest jewellery, an overwhelming dinner.

The banquet is followed by two New Year's receptions on January 3rd and 4th.

Princess Benedikte arrived first then followed by Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. Then Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary arrived in pouring rain and wind. Last but not least, the Queen. The evenings hostess. This will be her last as reigning Queen.

The Danish Government, Charman of Folketinget and representatives from the public and court were invited to take part in the dinner.

The Crown Prince Couple arriving to Amalienborg to attend the New Year's Even Banquet - the last time as Crown Prince and Crown Princess

If I had to choose one dress that stands as a symbol of Mary, then I would by no doubts, be her bespoke burgundy velvet gown created by Danish tailor Birgit Hallstein. Mary first wore it when pregnant with Princess Isabella in 2007. In 2012, the gown was altered to what we see today. Somehow, it has become a tradition for her to wear the gown at the New Year's Eve Banquet.

She embraced the style by wearing her beloved Ruby Parure inherited from Queen Ingrid - the belated great-grandmother of Crown Prince Frederik. She both wore the tiara, earrings, brooch and hairpins. These hairpins were created when the parure were altered around 2012. A ring was also attended to the parure.

Her silver clutch is a reuse and the elegant black satin pointed pumps are old goodies from Gianvito Rossi. I always loved the shape of Rossi's shoes. Impressive craftsmanship!
