First New Year Reception

2 January

The first days of a new year is, by the Queen and Crown Prince Couple, spend honouring people and celebrating the arrival of a new year. On January 1st, Queen Margrethe hosted a New Year banquet for members of the Government, the Chairman of Folketinget and people working for the royal family, here. A banquet like this usually takes place at Amalienborg. So, did it this year.

On January 2nd, Queen Margrethe was once again hosting a reception on occasion of New Year's Eve at Amalienborg. Tradition says that Supreme Court Judges, Royal Officers' Guard and the Guard Hussar Regiment are invited to be greeted by both the Queen and Crown Prince Couple.

Both Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were in a splendid mood, when they accompanied Queen Margrethe at the first New Year reception this year. Later on, the three of them celebrated New Year with the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg.

A white star on a black and white checkered floor. Mary looked absolutely splendid in her plain white gown. Its silhouette is so simple, but incredibly beautiful. The wide neckline, 3/4 sleeves and small train. She first wore this gown at the New Year banquet in 2015, here and then again at a gala dinner on occasion of a State visit from the Netherlands the same year, here. At that time the gown also featured a thin golden asymmetric "skirt". It has later been removed. The altering was first seen at a New Year reception the following year, in 2016, here. Since then, we have not seen her wear this Birgit Hallstein creation.

Arriving to Christiansborg, Mary had chosen to keep warm in a brand-new long white wool-blend coat. It has been identify as JOSEPH. Maybe that is why it reminded me so much of her other grey woolen coat from the same designer. She embraced the style by wearing powder pink accessories. A suede Ralph Lauren belt and matching Gianvito Rossi pumps perfectly matched the crispy white gown. Don't you think?

Maybe you also noticed her white beaded clutch. I am not quite sure when she wore it for the first time, but I think it was at a gala dinner for the Government in 2014, here. Its identity is still unknown to me. Mary also matched her stunning look with white pearl earrings and a necklace, such as a diamond ring from Dulong Fine Jewelry - and of course, white gloves. Very regal.
