Summer tour with Dannebrog

Day 2. Ærø

20 August 2024

A day at Ærø

King Frederik and Queen Mary have arrived at the island of Ærø. They are on their first official summer tour as King and Queen. The couple traveled by Dannebrog - the royal yacht.

They were warmly welcomed at Marstal harbour on Ærø and were officially welcomed at the Motor fabric Marstal.

Before hiking in Voderup Klit, the couple visited 'Ellen' in Søby harbour. Ellen is a ferry sailing on electricity. King Frederik and Queen Mary also paid a visit at Søbygaard - a visitor's center for Geopark.

Later, they went for a walk down Ærøkøbing square to Ærøkøbing harbour.

I have to say: what on earth is going on with this outfit? Why blue heels? Why this hat? What is your first impression?

Mary had chosen to wear a reused plain white Bagutta blouse and a brand new soft brown JOSEPH midi skirt. I kinda like this combo but I think a warmer colored blouse would have been better. Lately, she has been truly fond of wearing her Bagutta blouses. She has three - a white one, light blue and striped white and blue.

She accessorized the outfit with a Canopy Bay by Deborah Hutton hat and white pearl earrings from Dulong Fine Jewelry. Her two golden necklaces, bracelets and ring are also by Dulong Fine Jewelry. The third shorter necklace is Halberstadt.

More interesting is her new Jimmy Choo pumps. I have never really been a huge fan of kitten pumps. Why even make an effort of don't just make them flats. I don't quite get them. Nevertheless, I think these new Jimmy Choo's are pretty cool but do not match the rest of her outfit. When hiking Mary changed to NIKE sneakers. Again, why pink sneakers? Why not her white NIKE sneakers.

Reception at Dannebrog

After a long day on Ærø, the royal couple hosted yet another reception on board Dannebrog at Ærøkøbing harbour where the royal yacht is docked. It was around dinnertime.

Oh.. this evening outfit is magnificent! Love it. The Etro dress is so beautiful with the impressive colorful embroidery. She has worn it twice. At a private dinner at Wayfair Club Oswald in 2023 on occasion of the coronation in Great Britain. Then again in May 2024 for the presentation of the 'Léonie Sonnings Music Prize'.

Mary beautifully embraced the style with an elegant updo and turquoise earrings and ring. The earrings hold a lovely story. They belonged to her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe and were gifted to her for her 50th birthday. The delicate necklace is Halberstadt.

  1. Agree with you again! I don't get the shoes at all. I don't like them very much and they seem very impractical on the stony streets. Maybe her stylist wanted to experiment a lot for this tour? I love the Etro dress, she always looks fantast

  2. Hi! I think the blue shoes were chosen as a pop of color with what was a very neutral outfit. I actually really like the idea--but think a brighter color would have done a better job. The Etro dress is gorgeous and Queen Mary looks gorgeous! I also learned that the turquoise jewels were not just a gift to Mary from Queen Margrethe--the whole set is a true heirloom. The turquoise were part of jewels from Russia that came to Denmark with Queen Ingrid. The stones are believed to have belonged to Catherine the Great. They ended up in Sweden through Queen Ingrid's mother, Princess Margaret of Connaught, who became the Crown Princess of Sweden. Princess Margaret was given the Russian turquoises by her mother, Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia who was direct descendant of Catherine the Great. Such truly precious gems!!!
