The New Year Banquet 2023

01 January 2023

We have had to live without the magical New Year Banquet for some time now. The worldwide pandemic changed much - including the annual celebration of welcoming a new year.

With a pandemic more or less under control, the Queen once again hosted the prestiges Banquet at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen. She celebrated the evening along with members of the Danish Parliament, Folketinget's Chairman and special invited guests.

Of course members of the royal family also attended the banquet. First Princess Benedikte arrived. Prince Joachim followed without Princess Marie. She had to stay home a take care of Prince Henrik, who got sick. Then the Crown Prince Couple arrived - with style! What a couple. Last, but not least Queen Margrethe made her entrance.

Mary truly looked beautiful. Like Princess Aurora from Disney's "Sleeping Beauty". That sparkly soft blue evening gown was created by Danish designer Lasse Spangenberg. This is actually the first time Mary wears the gown for an event. We have seen it before, but that was on occasion of her 50th birthday in February (here, here, here). And then later for an official gala portrait photographed by Hasse Nielsen (here) - also on occasion of her birthday.

We get a small glimpse of soft grey suede pumps from Gianvito Rossi. Actually, shoes were custom-made by Joseph Azagury in the same fabric as the gown (here). But I like that she wore something a bit more simple for the banquet.

Impressively, Mary matched her lovely gown with the beloved Ruby Parure inherited from Queen Ingrid - Crown Prince Frederik's grandmother. Not that many years ago, Dulong Fine Jewelry's talented goldsmiths crafted a matching ruby ring. They also made the changes of the rest of the parure. For instance, for the earrings to be worn with other pendants like for the banquet.

I love that she also wore her beautiful diamond necklace from Halberstadt.

The beautiful silver J. Furmani flap clutch was a wonderful choice. It differently completed the outfit.
