100 years of Reunification

13 June

Last year, we were suppose to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Reunification. Summer hundred years ago, Southern Jutland officially become part of Denmark again after having been part of Germany. The reunification was the result of a referendum in which a majority of the population in North Schleswig voted home to Denmark.

In 1920, King Christian X celebrated the Reunification by crossing the old border from Denmark to Germany in Frederikshøj near Kolding, on his horse. This moment has, since then, become almost iconic for the reunification.

Today, Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian visited Frederikshøj crossing the old broder once again. Later on, the three of them attended a church service in Haderslev Cathedral. Queen Margarethe then drove to Aabenraa and tonight she host a dinner at Dannebrog in Sønderborg.

Fortunately, I happen to live near by and could not help myself from showing up and get a glimpse of the Queen, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian. Actually, it is the first time I see Queen Margrethe and what an experience it was. I really want to share a few photos with you from my "meeting" today.

You are very welcome to share my photos, but with proper credit. Thanks.

  1. How exciting! It must have been a great experience to see them all in real life. I thought the Queen looked so elegant all in white. The weather looks beautiful too.

    1. It was such an exciting experience! Actually, it is the first time I see the Queen and young Prince. The Crown Prince (and Crown Princess) I had the pleasure seeing many years ago - hopefully that will happen one day.

  2. Three Generation's of Royals. What a nice event. The Queen looked fantastic. CP Frederik looked wow in this uniform, lots of hardware on his chest. Prince Christian over towers both the Queen and his father. It must have been also a beautiful day, with sunshine and lots of people. Hope we see more of them together.

    1. The weather was absolutely stunning that day! Sunny, warm and a little windy. Simply perfect.

I also loved the Queen in her white outfit. She was really beautiful and then Crown Prince Frederik in his handsome uniform - and Prince Christian in that navy blue suit. What a match ;)
