New Year's reception at Christiansborg

07 January 2025

King Frederik and Queen Mary were driven from Amalienborg to Christiansborg in the historical Gold Coach escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Mounted Squadron.

They were about to host the very last New Year's reception for Officers from the Defence and the Danish Emergency Management Agency, national organisations and royal patronages.

Love that Mary is rewearing her old Jule Fagerholt creation. She first wore it in 2008 at another New Year's reception at Amalienborg. Back then it came with a different top and a jacket. Even thought it looks beautiful today I still misses the matching top and jacket.

The fine diamond brooch dates back to around 1840 - possibly made for Queen Josefina of Sweden. Her grand daughter Crown Princess Lovisa of Denmark inherited them. They are now part of the Danish Royal Property Trust stored at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen.

The earrings comes with a history too. Read more about the earrings here. Apparently Mary chose to mix and match parts of two different earrings from the same parure.

She also styled her outfit with a beloved grey suede BOSS clutch and magnificent Gianvito Rossi pumps.

Meeting with UNFPA,

the Maternity Foundation & the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

11 March 2024

For almost two decades, the Queen has worked with an agenda to to improve health, rights and wellbeing for girls and women both in Denmark and abroad.

The last 15 years, Queen Mary has shown her support to the Danish efforts to reduce maternal mortality and hereby also followed global developments alongside.

Today, she hosted a meeting with UNFPA, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Maternity Foundation. She was given an inside about maternal mortality. Among other things, they discussed how partnerships, innovations and digital solutions can contribute to women having access to a safe pregnancy and birth.

The meeting took place at Amalienborg.

Mary looked absolutely stunning in her reused emerald green ZARA suit! I love when she is wearing suits. Especially, colorful suits like this one. She has already worn it on several occasions. Please, let her outfit inspire you to wear more colors. We need colors in out daily life. She paired the suit with a simple (unidentified) black blouse.

Looks closer and you will see Mary matched her clothes with custom-made green earrings from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. The earrings can also be worn with a pendant. Love how she matched the colors. The fine golden necklaces are from talented Halberstadt and Julie Sandlau. Last but not least, her golden ring. It is crafted by Dulong Fine Jewelry.

We rarely get a photo showing her shoes, when she host private meetings. This time we have photos! Mary wore her outstanding studded green leather pumps from Valentino.

Inauguration of Jetsmark School Center

18 August 2023

Crown Princess Mary took all the way to Northern Jutland to attended the grand inauguration of Jetsmark School Center in Pandrup (here).

Students, teachers and citizens showed up to welcome the Crown Princess at the arrival and to make her day even more wonderful. She was indeed warmly welcomed with smiles, handshakes and flowers.

With the help of students and teachers, she counted down and cut the tradition red ribbon to officially inaugurate the new school center. She was then given a guided your around the facilities which will now form a modern framework for the community in Jetsmark.

Seems like Mary has added quite a few things to her wardrobe during the summer. Maybe she was inspired when on vacation. I like that idea. I say that because her style is so vibrant and casual. Almost bohemian. Think that also describes her outfit pretty well when visiting Pandrup to attend the inauguration of Jetsmark's new school center.

Mary had chosen a brand new white and blue striped POLO Ralph Lauren set. A matching blazer and trousers. Love the silhouette of the trousers. Very sleek. Can't wait to see how she is going to style both pieces in the future.

Her outfit was indeed casual and simple. This is why I love that she accessorized it with plenty of jewellery. Like golden earrings from Dulong Fine Jewelry, her rather new green beaded MaRe necklace and matching bracelet, rings from Dulong Fine Jewelry and Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. Maybe a bit messy combo, but I like it!

We get a glimpse of her wearing reused brown leather sandals from Gianvito Rossi.

New Year's reception at Amalienborg and Christiansborg

03 Januar 2023

The new year is always celebrated with several prestiges gatherings. The first one is on January 1st with Queen Margrethe as hostess. For a few years, we have had to live without the annual New Year's Banquet at Amalienborg due to the worldwide pandemic. But not this years. Queen Margrethe enjoyed celebrating the coming of a new year with her closest family and members of the Danish Government (here).

Following comes two New Year's receptions taking place on January 3rd and 4th.

On January 3rd, Queen Margrethe hosted a wonderful New Year's reception at Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg with guests invited from the Officer Corps of the Royal Life Guards and the Guard Hussar Regiment and Judges of the Supreme Court. The Crown Prince Couple accompanied the Queen.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary also accompanied Queen Margrethe, when she hosted yet another reception that very same day. This reception took place at Christiansborg with guests from the Diplomatic Corps.

From the New Year's reception at Christiansborg

Usually, Queen Margrethe has worn an "annual" outfit, when attending these New Year receptions, but Mary has mostly worn different outfits each year. This changed som years ago. Now, she is mainly wearing the same gowns for the different receptions. I kindly miss the diversity of gowns. It is truly hard to separate every year from each other. Nevertheless, she looked very beautiful at the receptions on January 3rd.

The lovely light grey gown was first worn in 2008 (here). As you see, it has been altered since then. The upper part is now in a soft grey fabric and she is not wearing it with its matching jacket. Mary also wore the gown in 2010 (here), 2012 (here), 2013 (here), 2017 (here) and 2019 (here).

This year, Mary has chosen to style her reception-outfit with divine white pearl earrings and a matching ring but custom-made creations by Dulong Fine Jewelry. Both earrings and ring have been in her collection for many years. She has worn the earrings with a number of different pendants (here, here, here). The stunning diamond necklace is a Halberstadt creation.

I really adore how she embraced the gown with a suede clutch from BOSS Hugo Boss and pointed Gianvito Rossi pumps. I am always IMPRESSED how well Mary is able to match shades of colours despite brands.

New Year's reception at Amalienborg & Christansborg

Thursday, January 3rd

On January 1st the Queen hosted the prestiges New Year's Even banquet at Amalienborg Castle in Copenhagen. Guests from the Danish Government and the royal family's staff were invited to the gala dinner, here.

Traditionally, Queen Margrethe host two more events on occasion of New Year's Eve. On Thursday another dinner took place. Early morning the Queen had invited both Supreme Court judges, the Royal Guardian's and the Guardian's Regiment Officers' Corps to a reception at Christians VII's Palace at Amalienborg. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were also present.

A couple of hours later the three of them showed up at Christiansborg Castle to attend the Queen's second New Year's Eve receptions. This time the diplomatic corps were invited. Guests from near and far.

Both Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were in a splendid mood during the two receptions. All of them seemed to enjoy the day accompanied by each other.

Mary had chosen to wear an outfit she know works perfectly. She showed up wearing a rather old grey figure hugging gown made by Julie Fagerholt. Originally it was worn with a matching jacket, here. In  2017 it was redesigned and ended up like this - with a modified top part, here.

At the reception on Thursday Mary embraced her wonderful gown with simple white pearl jewellery. The matching bracelet and ring are made by Dulong Fine Jewelry. The earrings I still do not know a thing about. They have been worn before, but without being identified. Do you know something about these diamond and pearl earrings? I would really like to know more about them.

Arriving to Christiansborg Castle we got a glimpse of her light grey suede pumps from Gianvito Rossi. These have also been seen before at a number of different occasions. Nothing new about them. The same goes with the beautiful grey suede clutch from Hugo Boss. As I stared saying: Mary wore an outfit that works all too well. It is simple, elegant and classy.

Day 2. New Year's reception at Amalienborg & Christiansborg

Tuesday, January 3rd

Queen Margrethe hosted two New Year's receptions. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were present at both receptions which took place at Amalienborg castle and later on at Christiansborg castle.

Program
  • 9:50 am. Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a New Year's reception for Justices, The Royal Guard and the regiments Officer Corps at Amalienborg.
  • 11:30 am. Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were present at the New Year's reception for diplomacy at Christiansborg castle.

Second best thing, after the big New Year's Banquet has to be the three other New Year's receptions taking place the following days. For the Queen and the Crown Prince couple the day began with a reception for Justices, The Royal Guard and the regiments Officer Corps taking place at Christian VIIs palace, Amalienborg -the same palace where the big Banquet were celebrated.

I have commented on her beautiful outfit further down in the post.

Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary attending the New Year reception at Christiansborg

Unlike previous, we got plenty of pictures from the second reception taking place at Christiansborg castle -the same place as for the Danish Parliament. It was around noon, 11:30 pm local time, the Queen and the Crown Prince couple arrived, here, to attend a reception for the diplomacy. Special invited guests from 75 different nations participated. The three royal family members arrived last and before before the reception began, each and everyone were welcomed with a handshake given by Margrethe, Frederik and Mary. This little ceremony was followed by a speech given by H.E. Ms Mina Marie Baldé Laurent. She is ambassador of the Ivory Coast. As the longest serving ambassador is she in charge of the speech on behalf of diplomacy. Queen Margrethe also gave a speech, thanking Ms Laurent and the diplomancy.

With more than 75 nationalities from all over the world gathered at one reception, we get a unique opportunity to see clothes in all colours and patterns. Something that makes this event more than special. Indeed we saw some amazing national costumes! Because the Queen loves coloured clothes this much, I imagine she was impressed by the variety or colour combinations and patterns. Not quite as colourful, yet absolutely stunning, we have Crown Princess Mary in her grey gown. And wauw! First thing that hit me was the magnificent waist line. Such an innovative way to create a gown never seen before. I simply love the way two different materials matched each other in this one dress. Maybe you even recognize this Julie Fagerholt creation? Because actually it is a reused gown, worn by Mary at several previously occasions in 2008, 20102012 and 2013. But at that time it was a two-piece evening gown -jacket and a the dress. This time she wore it without the jacket. And as you see on the old pictures the top has now been changes and I really fancy "the new look". Perfectly matching the floor-length gown she embrace the style by wearing suede Gianvito Rossi pumps, a grey Hugo Boss clutch and earrings from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. Incredibly beautiful! For hours I could comment on this look, but I will leave it to you.

What do you think? Are you as impressed as I am?

Day 2: New Year Reception at Christiansborg Palace

January, 3

Queen Margrethe was the host of a New Year reception. Her and Prince Henrik welcomed the diplomatic corps. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended the dinner.

Frederik and Mary entered the room with elegance, next to each other well-dressed in a uniform and a stunning grey embroidered gown with a short jacket in the same fabric. The designer of the outfit is Julie Fagerholt, the designer of Heartmade a brand Mary loves. I'm so fascinated by the pattern of the dress, it's really beautiful and feminine. The grey colour suits her wonderfully. The Order of Elephant are back on the blue ribbon and next to the grey gown... wow. Vintage looking she wore long snow white gloves. Reminds me of the glamours 50s. A half updo draw all the focus to her Marianne Dulong wedding earrings. They were custom-made to Mary from Frederik as a wedding gift. What a lovely gift to receive from your future husband. Her face looked like pure porcelain with the light pink lips and grey/black eye makeup. Simply beauty!
