Christmas Services

December, 24th

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a Christmas service along with Prince Christian and Princess Isabella. As a tradition did Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and Prince Henrik also attend the service. The three youngest children, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine and Princess Athena, were waiting on the palace for their family to return. Everyone seemed to be in a really great mood, happy to attend the Christmas service. Like everything else in December, the 24th is the ultimate day to gather your family and celebrate it all together. Me all have our own traditions and this is one of those we know about who the royal family celebrate their Christmas. The last twelve year I have every single Christmas attended a Christmas service in the local church, something I will not do without. The atmosphere is just wonderful and something you need to experience yourself. I'm sure all the royal kids were exited as every other kid on Christmas Eve when they attended the services but well-behaved as always.

To celebrate this evening Mary was wearing a navy blue double breasted coat featuring golden or maybe copper buttons. I think it is the second time we see it. To find the coat has not been easy at all but now it has been identified as Prada, I tend to say -of course. I'm sure we will see it sometimes again. I have completely fallen in love with the beige leather boots with the high heel. Wauw they look good at the same time they are a match to the coat and black leather gloves.

December 25th

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a service on December 25th accompanied by Former Pastor Peter Parkov who is a close friend of the family and does always celebrate Christmas with Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik. Peter Parkov has been physically disabled and is now on crutches. Therefore, the couple helped him out of the Queen's car to get to the church service, which aroused joy with the older man.

On the 24th Mary was a little more elegant dressed but when she arrived with Frederik and Peter Parkov, she was dressed casual with a messy hairstyle, her white Prada coat and pretty expensive Quidam clutch. In all black it was great to see just some colours on this second day in church.

As for many other families it is also a tradition for the royal family to go to church during December, even more because Mary is the patron of The Royal. Danish Academy of Music's Children Choir (Det kongelige danske Musikkonservatoriums Børnekor). Often she brings her family which she did this year. The family was warmly welcomed when they arrived at the church as many of the other participating guests. Christmas is a time when we are together and have a good time, so it is also great to see the royal couple with their four wonderful children doing something very common that many Danish families are doing in December as more or less a private visit though Mary was at work. Next to his oldest sister, Prince Christian went through the church to find their seats in the front raw, closely followed by his parents and two younger siblings. On each seat was a small gift for each of the kids there was a great entertainment during the concert especially to Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine who might not quite understand yet what all of this is really about. Christian got a Rubik's Cube and Isabella, Vincent and Josephine got Plus-Plus puzzles to play with. Before the Christmas concert could begin, there was a Lucia procession through the church that helped to provide just the right atmosphere. The Lucia procession is by now become a tradition as well. The concert did that particularly the small royal children a bit restless but they behaved very nicely. An hour later the Christmas concert ended and it was time for the royal family to go back home.

In black and white Mary amazed me with her quite simple outfit. Black lace is a winner no matter what your personal style is. At the arrival to Esajas Church she was wearing a snow white coat featuring rather large buttons and pockets identified as Prada. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the model again online. To you who need to see pictures before you believe me, mail me and I will show you pictures. I love the fact that she wore her green Jewlscph earrings because it makes the lace outfit even more glamorous! A really nice detail. Here it's worth mentioning that Mary also accessorized her look with the expensive Shamballa Jewels bracelet. I not sure if she wearing a dress or a blouse and a skirt. One of my most beloved readers Pernille showed me an outfit from the Danish designer Elise Gug which have great similarity with Mary's. You know after I did the update on this post the design from Elise Gug has vanished from every site on the internet but like the Prada coat I have a picture on my computer to show you, if you need a proof of what I say is true. Matching the rest of the outfit she wore black pumps from SAND Copenhagen. A pair of shoes I really like because of the shape, it looks stunning on the foot. Makes her legs look the best and the heel is the perfect hight. I think a pair of shoes need the right hight and here we have it. I'm so lucky that Agnés has shared her photo with me and she got a perfect shot of the shiny pumps. I wouldn't mind wearing this on Christmas eve!

A Day in Herning

December, 12th

Crown Princess Mary visited the Lind Care and Activity Center in Herning at 2:15 pm. As the patron of the Danish Swimming Federation Crown Princess Mary at 3:40 pm. attended the Short Course Championships in swimming in the Jyske Bank Boxen.

Crown Princess Mary visiting the Lind Care and Activity Center

For one day has Mary traveled to Herning in Jutland and around noon she arrived to the Lind Care and Activity Center who are using welfare technology in the care of the older residents living at the care center. In a black crown car she arrived and was welcomed by Mayor Lars Krarup, Tonni Svensson who lives at the care center and area manager Hedvig Toftegaard. There were great cheers from those in attendance, kids waving with the red and white Danish flag and people with cameras. Like Mary all the attendance were very happy and in a fantastic mood. The most amazing thing was to see the older residents faces when the royal guest of honor arrival, they were so thrilled to see Mary and those who met her shone across the face. During her visit she was treated with cake and coffee along with the 125 residents, staff and other guests. There is just something unique and warm about elderly. I have always loved being with them, they have so many good stories to tell  and regardless of age we can learn from them. It makes me maudlin to see how the elderly are treated well at the Lind Care and Activity Center. One of the center's residents apartments were showcased during the visit and to me it seems like they are doing great, surrounded by things they from their life and everything that matters to them. The apparent belonged to Regitze Jacobsen who was extremely glad and honor to meet the future Queen. We need to take care of all people in our society no matter who they are. End of story. These people have worked all their lives for the country we live in today and we should thank them for what they have done for us. Sadly I haven't been able to find any pictures to share with you, because there are so so many wonderful pictures out there from the visit. Instead I found a little video which might be even better. Watch it and I will assure you that your heart will melt down.

The absolute best was to see her with the residents. See their happy faces and how much it means to them to meet Mary. I can't deny that closely followed is her outfit. Sigh. A red suit! I want one right away! If I'm correct this is the first time ever we have seen Mary in a red suit and I truly hope it will not be the last time. Red is symbolized with so many things from hate to love, no matter what it's symbolized with great power. Personally I love wearing this colour and to see Mary in a red made my day even better. Wauw. Wauw. With a white blouse, the red Hugo Boss (Fall 2013 Ready-to-wear) suit she matched the Danish flags the kids were welcoming her with. I'm sure you all noticed the lovely beige coat, by the way a fabulous colour next to the red suit, which actually is reused. The coat is at least 12 years old. Pretty cool -I think so! In 2001 Mary visited Denmark for the first time and Billed-Bladet got a picture of her, where she is wearing the exact same coat as this one. Then two, 2003, years later at the christening of Ellen Hillngsø and Christoffer Castenskiold's son, Thomas, Mary attended wearing the beige coat again. As far as I know we haven't seen it since. Till her day in Herning. It kinda makes me happy to see such and old item again because even though so many years have pasts I think she wear the coat even better today. Unfortunately I do not know who the designer is such as the brown pumps. I once heard that her pumps should be from Christian Louboutin but I doubt that. Do you happen to know anything about them? In a third brown nuance she wore a brown hand-made clutch from Carlend Copenhagen. When she took off the coat her silver lurex cardigan from By Malene Birger was visible such as a three-chain necklace featuring round pendants. At first I wasn't able to find out where who designed this new necklace. Then I realized that it's a three-chain necklace featuring a pendant with each child's initial. Long = C, Christian _ Medium = I, Isabella _ Short = V+J, Vincent+Josephine. The short necklace features two pendants. Take a look at this pictures here and I'm sure you will see what I mean. The necklace is from Danish Jewellery designer Jane Kønig. I love the fact that she is wearing a necklace with each of her children's initials. What any mother would do. The only thing that changed with her outfit from one event to the next, was that she was not wearing the silver cardigan at the swimming event. Simply because of the heat inside the swimming hall I think.

Crown Princess Mary attended the Short Course Championships in swimming

After she visited the Lind Care and Activity Center Mary attended the Short Course Championships in swimming in Jyske Bank Boksen as the patron of Danish Swimming. At the arrival to Jyske Bank Boksen she was welcomed by the volunteers at the event. This year it is the first time European Championships in swimming at the short course for seniors is held in Denmark. The Championships lasts from December 12th to 15th. I think one reason why she was wearing these specific colour might be because she was also attending a the Short Course Championships in swimming and wanted to represent Denmark in the best way, supporting the participants. Seems like it worked because the Danes won! It was a Danish record and world record in the girls relay. The Danish team was Pernille Blume, Jeanette Ottesen, Kelly Riber Rasmussen and Mie Ø. Nielsen, who won in distance 4x50 meter free. I congratulate the team with the victory! They girls was also congratulate by Mary who handed over the golden medals. Rikke Møller Pedersen was lucky to get a photo of her and Mary, you see below. With this photo we can also see the white blouse she wore much better.

Så blev det en fantastisk aften. Dansk rekord og verdensrekord i pigernes holdkap. Ja og så mødte jeg lige Hendes Kongelige Højhed Prinsesse Mary, som er ambassadør for dansk svømning :)

This event was scheduled to Crown Prince Frederik but Mary stepped in instead of him in the last minute because Frederik secretly just travelled to Afghanistan to visit the Danish troops. As a couple there are there to help each other and I love that he did not canceled his royal appearance but send his wife instead. I know how important it is for people that the royals actually show up and make it a more prestigious memory. 9:00 am. Mary arrived to University of Copenhagen attending the Niels-Bohr-conference. At the opening she will hear some of the keynote speakers, including the American historian Richard Rhodes who is the author of books about nuclear power and analysis of physicist Niels Bohr's work. During the conference she also attended the speech by the Secretary General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano, who's speech was on contemporary issues concerning nuclear power. It all take place in the ceremonial hall at University of Copenhagen on occasion of the 100th anniversary of Niels Bohr' three world-famous articles in a physics journal, in which he outlined his new atomic theory. The conference takes starting point in Niels Bohr's later thoughts that the physicist formulated in an open letter to the UN in 1950. The letter argued for the necessity of an open world with sharing of scientific and technical knowledge between nations seen the light in the contemporary concern about the use of nuclear power in warfare. Below you see a picture of the man himself: the famous Niels Bohr. Taken in 1961.

Even this was a last minute job Mary was in a great mood and beautiful dressed in a classy black suit. But I need to start somewhere else today because I must say that I admire that she attended the opening of the conference in Copenhagen with bare legs. It's December and pretty cold. How is that even possible? Is she never getting cold wearing no sheer tights? I would become ill right away. And then she's wearing a scarf at the same time, it really does not make sense to me at all. Well Mary, you are a cool woman. The powder pink lace scarf was one of the first thing I noticed maybe because of the black suit. At the same time it was a great match to the beige Prada clutch she had chosen to wear as well. I like a little colour next to the black that makes it both edgy and feminine. By the way, her asymmetric jacket featuring a belt, I believe we have seen before but I can't remember when or where. Something you remember? I really like that scarf, clutch and shoes matched this well. Talking about shoes I am so so glad to see these patent Prada pumps again with the black cap-toe and heel. Usually I'm not at all a fan of two coloured shoes especially in a patent material but this Prada-model are a fantastic match of colours. I always imagined that they are quite comfortable to wear. She makes it seems so easy to walk in them. I know it's all about training and a little bit of practice but wauw I would love love to try these on. She accessorized her December-last-minute-look with golden earrings and bracelets as well as her rhinestone brooch from Elise Gug. This is how to use black in a brilliant way by wearing blushed accessories.

Christmas Reception at Amalienborg Castle

December, 4th

Crown Princess Mary hosted a Christmas reception at Amalienborg Castle for the partners working with the Mary Foundation.

It has become a tradition for Mary and her foundation to host a Christmas reception for the partners working and supporting the Mary Foundation and their work. This year was no exception. They were all invited to glögg/gløgg and æbleskiver. To you who have no idea what this is, don't worry I'm about to tell you because I understand if you haven't heard it. Glögg/gløgg is a drink with its history back in Germany called glühwein. It's made of among others red wine, snaps, brown rom, madeira, oranges, lemon, cinnamon, star anise etc. You drink it hot. It tastes a little spicy and if you get too much of it you will for sure get drunk ;) Æbleskiver (in Danish) and I'm not sure they have an english name but in Denmark we love them. Æbleskiver are made of  primarily pancake dough, which in a dumpling pan fried in a round shape. They are really delicious! If you get the change to try these two things someday, do it. Eaten with jam or icing sugar. So now you know what they had to drink and eat. They we gathered in the tapestry hall. I'm sure they had a great time talking about this and that. Mary got the change to talk to among others with CEO Helle Østergaard and associate professor, Ph.D. and Centre Dorthe Bleses about children's language development, one of the Mary Foundations
workspaces. There was plenty of time to talk about the different projects and the results the foundation has achieved in the past year and maybe also about new projects? Who knows.

The purple Prada dress was a really great choice for her to wear at the Christmas reception! It's a dress we have seen many times before at several occasions over the years, still I think it's magnificent. The shape suits her very well and the dark purple colour looks amazing with the dark hair colour. When she has worn the dress before, it's often accessorized with items in the same purple colour and that was sort of also the case at yesterdays outfit. She matched her diamond earrings from Cenius & Bach featuring a squared amethyst pendant. Pure glamour! With the standard good-looking hairstyle and elegant makeup, which did also contain the colour purple, I think she completed her look beautifully. As the only black item she wore the diamond watch from Cartier with a black strap. The story tells that Frederik gave Mary a Cartier watch on the day of their wedding in 2004 and I'm pretty sure it's this one. A silver Cartier watch featuring diamonds and a interchangeable strap. Seen with a purple and black strap, although black is what we are most often. On the other hand she wore her Shamballa Jewels bracelet with gold chain and the pink argyle ball. One of the basic thing she wear right now, a piece of jewellery no one else then her is able to buy. With a bright coloured dress Mary was wearing patent nude pumps from the same designer as the dress, Prada. Seen at all kind of events but I'm sure we all remember them from one specific day -when the twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine were christened. An outfit she was praised for by all journalists, bloggers and designers.

Startupbootcamp Mobility Investor Day

November, 28th
Photo @Agnés Colbert
Crown Princess Mary attended the opening of the Startupbootcamp Mobility Investor Day at Copenhagen city hall.

What is Startupbootcamp Mobility Investor Day?
The ambition was clear in 2010 when the first Startupbootcamp program was held -to help startups in Europe to make an alternative to the big programs in the US. Now three years later the third program is based in Copenhagen of small accelerator tapping into the region's strengths in mobile technologies and solutions but now as Europe's largest accelerator. This year more than 40 countries were gathered to ten startups. On November 28th the remaining nine companies were ready to show 150 investors their company and take it to the next level. Read more here

Half past twelve Mary arrived by car to Copenhagen City hall to attend the opening of the Startupbootcamp Mobility Investor Day were 150 investors were gathered to bring nine companies till the next level. This day is the opportunity for these nine future companies. The royal guest was welcomed on the red carpet, then she was ready to meet the nine CEOs before the pitching started. The city hall were packed with all the investors who were ready to meet and hear much more about the exciting projects developed by the nine companies which was ready to show the outcome of a 3-month work the nine startups had gone through. They had been working really hard to get here today; lots of different workshops, mentoring and most of all long working hours. It takes everything to get so far. The city hall was beautifully decorated to welcome Mary and the 150 investors. The Managing Director of Startupbootcamp Mobility, Lars Buch, opened the day with the words: "Our job is to find the right fish in the sea, and I believe we have succeeded." The nine projects fighting to get each their investors are: Projektor35 - Kiggit (the only Danish group) - Pergunter - EasySize - Passnfly - Wallept - Stopandgo - Funifi - Dealcircle. Working with anything and everything from launching new data browsers to a new affiliate function.

Lovely as always, Mary was dressed in different shades of blue at the opening of the Startupbootcamp Mobility Investor Day. Because of the black pencil skirt, the blue piece of clothes almost 'popped' out especially the printed L.K. Bennett peplum. I want to thanks Debbie because she told me where to find this edgy new peplum. Matching a peplum blouse and a pencil skirt makes a great outfit every time. I would say that this combination would suit everybody, regardless of size, height, age or style. Peplums have been quite popular the last few years and I think we will see them as much in 2014. A timeless shape will always be popular. Before we even got the change to see what she wore, she arrived wearing a nice blue coat from Prada featuring the characteristic large buttons and relatively large pockets and collar. Coats must be a princesses' best friend and when you do like Mary, often wear colourful coats, your coat become a part of the whole outfit. Fashionistas have a little rule I think I will share with all of you because it will help you finding the right outfit and I can use Mary as an example. It's called the 3-piece rule. As the names says, you find the perfect balance between clothes and accessories when to choose your outfit. With others words, focus on three items for instance: skirt, blouse and coat like Mary did. Without the coat it would be: skirt, blouse and earrings. Since I started using this 'rule' in practice, it is much easier for me to put together an outfit. Back to Mary's opening look. The natural makeup and hairstyle gave all the attention to the clothes.  She accessorized her look with a black patent belt from Celiné and what I believe is her Cartier watch featuring small diamonds and a black strap. I would so much like to wear a watch more often but I have a hard time matching it with my style and personality. She matched the SAND Copenhagen pumps with the expensive Carlend Copenhagen clutch made of crocodile. Not to forget the beautiful earrings designed by Marianne Dulong with the blue pendant in the exact same colour as the coat. I love when two or more pieces have the same colour, so this made me really happy to see. Dulong created these earrings to be worn with several different pendants. Clever!
