THE FIRST NEW YEAR RECEPTION

2nd January

The first days of a new year is, by the Queen and Crown Prince Couple, spend honouring people and celebrating the arrival of a new year. On January 1st, Queen Margrethe hosted a New Year banquet for members of the Government, the Chairman of Folketinget and people working for the royal family, here. A banquet like this usually takes place at Amalienborg. So, did it this year.

On January 2nd, Queen Margrethe was once again hosting a reception on occasion of New Year's Eve at Amalienborg. Tradition says that Supreme Court Judges, Royal Officers' Guard and the Guard Hussar Regiment are invited to be greeted by both the Queen and Crown Prince Couple.

Both Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were in a splendid mood, when they accompanied Queen Margrethe at the first New Year reception this year. Later on, the three of them celebrated New Year with the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg.

THE NEW YEAR BANQUET

1st January

A new year has arrived and that has to be celebrated with everything it takes to welcome a new year. It is a tradition for the Queen to host a prestigious banquet at Amalienborg on January 1st. Nothing had changed this year.

Representatives from the official part of Denmark were invited, as well as the Danish Government, the Chairman of Folketinget and people working for the royal family. The guests arriving were also captured on photo, hereThis is her way of saying: "Thank you for what you have done for Denmark the past year and thank you for what will come". And what a lovely tradition to have.

Members of the royal family were, of course, also invited to participate the finest dinner of them all. First Princess Benedikte arrived wearing a stunning purple velvet gown. To me it seems like she was in a splendid mood. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie followed her and arrived just a few minutes later. Princess Marie looked gorgeous in her reused midnight blue gown and loose hairstyle. Then Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary arrived, followed by Queen Margrethe in her brand-new fitted gown.

FASHIONABLE HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2019

First of all: "Happy New Year to all of you!" I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your friends and family. That you enjoyed spending time with all those you love the most. That you created lots of new memories to recall in the future. I differently had a great time and now I look forward to welcoming a new year; a new decade. With that in mind, it naturally makes me think of all the things that have taken place the last 365 days. What ended up being 2019. Personally, a lot has happened. Things that will also be a big part of my 2020. One thing is for sure: it has been a great year for Crown Princess Mary - and for us who have been following her (and her style) all along. In the post I have gathered some of the most memorable fashionable highlights from the last year. Did I miss any?

A CHRISTMAS VISIT AT KRÆFTVÆRKET

18th December

For the fourth time, the Crown Princess visited Kræftværket at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. Her visit was all private and unofficial. She first payed a visit to Kræftværket in 2016, here and since then it has become, more or less, an annual thing for her to do.

Kræftværket at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen works as a meeting place for young people being treated for cancer. It gives the young patients a room of time away from their illness and a place of gathering. Kræftværket has been working with this agenda since 2015.

This year the visit took place in the evening of December 18th. She was warmly welcomed by lots of young people at Kræftværket, who gladly shared their stories and talk about how much the project has meant for them in their lives. As always, Crown Princess listened with great patience and sincerity. She took all the time needed. There was laughter, joy and also time for a more serious talk. Her visit had been announced anywhere. Therefor it was a more quieter without numerous journalists and photographers. The Crown Princess and the young people had an evening all to themselves.
