From now on the Crown Princess can work as regent if and when Queen Margrethe is, for instance, not around. The decision of making her regent was adopted on at a state council meeting on Wednesday. During the same meeting, she gave her signature and with that she accepted to comply with the Danish Constitution (called Grundlov).

As an annual tradition, the royal family were gathered at Christiansborg Castle to attend the opening of the Danish Parliament. Princess Benedikte arrived first followed by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. Last, Queen Margrethe arrived and were welcomed with smiles, handshakes and flowers (of course). Usually, Prince Joachim and his wife Princess Marie also participate but as you know they have moved to France and were not able to be part of the opening.

The first Tuesday of October the Parliament officially comes back from vacation. It is marked with the gathering of the Parliament and Government present. And of course with the Royal family attending. This year was a bit special because Denmarks newly selected Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen held her very first speech in Folketinget.

Both Princess Benedikte, the Crown Prince Couple and Queen Margrethe watched the opening from the balcony. It is located right of the rostrum.
