The EliteForsk Awards 2019

We have not seen the Crown Princess much lately. Last time we had the chance was when she attended a memorial concert in honor of Prince Henrik who passed away last year, here. Back then she was accompanied by her husband.

On Thursday Crown Princess Mary was own her won again when attending the presentation of EliteForsk Awards. It all took place at the Opera House in Copenhagen. Every year since 2007, EliteForsk Awards are handed over to leading researchers in their field with purpose of raising awareness of research in Denmark.

The Crown Princess has attended as guest of honor more than once. This year was no exception. She was warmly welcomed by (among others) Danish Minister of Education and Research, Tommy Ahlers. The two of them later entered the stage and presented five winners of the EliteForsk Award. Tommy Ahlers and Crown Princess Mary also handed over twenty students receiving one of the EliteForsk Travel Grants. Congratulations to all winners.

Memorial concert for Prince Henrik

February, Wednesday 20th

A year ago on February 20th beloved Prince Henrik buried. To honor his memory his wife Queen Margrethe hosted a memorial concert in his name. The concert took place Wednesday evening in the church at Fredensborg Castle. Both the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, several of Prince Henrik's old and close friends, representatives from the Royal House and many more attended the concert.

After the arrival, all invited were welcomed by Queen Margrethe. It was with warm and kind words she thanked everybody for their attendance. She then accompanied her family in the royal lounge.

Music was played by the Royal Danish Academy of Music reflecting Prince Henrik's love of music and poetry. On many occasions the world have had the chance to hear the Prince himself share his poems. This time there were part of the concert in memory of the man who created them.

The concert in the castle church was followed by a reception in Kuppelsalen at Fredensborg Castle. This is also were Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary danced the traditional wedding waltz. A room for all aspects of life.

Meeting with UNFPA

February, Wednesday 6th

Crown Princess Mary has been busy lately. She has attended both award shows, here and here, and a 10th anniversary for Advice for Life, here. In the meantime the Crown Princess also managed to hosted several meetings taking place at Amalienborg.

Wednesday afternoon she hosted yet another meeting. Crown Princess Mary met with Under-Secretary-General of Executive Director (ED) of UNFPA, Dr Natalia Kanem. She visited Denmark on on that occasion she met with the Crown Princess to talk about UNFPA's ongoing work, challenges and future projects. The Crown Princess is patron of UNFPA. The royal house also inform that the two of them discussed joint activities in the future.

The Cancer Society's Honorary Award 2019

February, Monday 4th

On occasion of World Cancer Day the Crown Princess atteneded the presentation of the Cancer Society's Honorary Award 2019. The award was handed over at Skuespilhuset in Copenhagen. The Cancer Society's Honorary Award is given to a person, group, department or someone who has made a special effort in the field of cancer.

Crown Princess Mary arrived as guest of honor to Skuespilhuset. She was in a great mood. One big smile. She was warmly welcomed with flowers, smilies and handshakes. Shortly after the arrival she entered the stage and presented the winners. This years winners are the supermarket chains Aldi, COOP, Lidl, REMA 1000, Salling Group and Magasin. The reason for them to win are because they are at the forefront of efforts to prevent children and young people from starting to smoke. Congratulations to all of them.
